Little Egrets

Term 2

Hello! I hope you all had a good half term! It’s great to have the children back for another term.

This term we will be learning all about Central Asia! Our class book will be ‘Tales told in tents’. The book contains a series of short stories from around central Asia, including poetry.  All of the children’s English will be linked to this book and some of their topic learning too! We will be writing a story based around journeys and linked to one of short stories from the class book.

In maths, the children will now be moving onto addition and subtraction. However, throughout the term, we will still be revising place value as this is still extremely important to apply to our addition and subtraction. As well as this, in maths fluency, we will be heavily focusing on times tables. If you could continue to practice these at home it would be greatly appreciated and beneficial to your children.

During Geography, we will be locating places on a world map and globe. These places will include countries found in Central Asia. Once we are confident with this, we will be following a route on a large scale map; the route the children will be following will link to our class story, ‘Tales Told in Tents’. Towards the end of the term, the children will be noticing the human and physical characteristics of specific countries- these will include Kazakhstan and Pakistan.

Miss Corbett will be concentrating on science and the children will be learning all about state of matter and exploring different materials.

During the Arts, we will be listening and appreciating a range of music across a range of countries located in Central Asia. As well as continuing to learn the ukulele with myself and Jude, the ukulele teacher (the children have had a tremendous start to this last term). In DT the children will be learning to weave and creating their own bright Asian patterns. The children are going to have a lot of fun!

Homework will be sent home on a Thursday and would need to be back by the Tuesday please.

Many thanks for all your support.

Term 1

Hello! Welcome back!

It’s so lovely to have the children aback into the classroom! We are very much looking forward to starting this term! This term we will be learning all about the Vikings! Our class book will be ‘Arthur and the Golden Rope’. The book is about a boy named, Arthur, who enters a magical journey into a new world- a Viking land! He finds himself in a place filled with magical objects and powerful Gods. Arthur needs to conquer the mythical beast and save his town!  All of the children’s English will be linked to this book and some of their topic learning too! We will be writing a newspaper report after reading the book as well as writing character descriptions and revising some of our persuasive writing.

In maths, the children will be focusing on the recovery curriculum, in particular place value and revising lots of skills we may have forgotten during lockdown. From the get go, we will be heavily focusing on times tables – so any learning of these at home would be greatly appreciated!

During Geography, we will be looking closely at all the placed the Vikings invaded; we will be researching and locating the countries on a world map and learning more about each.

Miss Corbett will be concentrating on science and the children will be learning all about their body and the digestive system.

Whilst learning about the Vikings the children will be carrying out their own research using books and the internet, drawing their own maps and learning about geographical differences and similarities. It will be an exciting term!

Homework will be sent home on a Thursday and would need to be back by the Tuesday please.

Many thanks for all your support.
