Our Vision

"Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Design is knowing which ones to keep".

Design Technology is an inspiring, exciting and rewarding subject, in which children can take pride in both their finished products and the journey involved in making these. Our vision is to equip children with the knowledge, skills and opportunities to become designers!

Design Technology encourages children to learn to think and intervene creatively to solve problems both as individuals and as members of a team. At College Road Primary School, we encourage children to use their creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, often linked to their topic learning, considering their own and others' needs, wants and values.

We aim to, wherever possible, link work to other disciplines such as mathematics, science, computing and art. The children are also given opportunities to reflect upon and evaluate past and present design technology, its uses and its effectiveness and are encouraged to become innovators and risk-takers. Examples of design technology are everywhere in the world around us, and we aim to foster children's curiosity, awe and wonder as they explore existing designs and create their own.
