British Values & SMSC
The Department for Education states:
All maintained schools must meet the requirements set out in section 78 of the Education Act 2002 and promote the spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development of their pupils.
At College Road Primary School, we believe that British Values and SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural) development are fundamental to ensuring that our pupils become excellent citizens of the future.
Through our curriculum, our daily collective worship and a range of visitors, children are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance. Our Modern Foreign Language is Mandarin Chinese and we are lucky enough to welcome teachers from China each year to teach a mixture of Mandarin and Chinese culture to all our pupils, including Foundation Stage. During their time at our school, our pupils learn in depth about a country from each continent of the world, which includes looking at the culture and traditions of each.
We have a strong culture of respect for the school charter (rules) and each class develop their own set of class promises after discussions about what is right or wrong. At the same time, children learn about how all people living in England are subject to the laws of the land and how we can practise these in school. Through our Religious Education curriculum, children will learn about the laws affecting different religions and how these are different to the laws of the land.
Combined with our Values based Education approach, we encourage children to have an ethical vocabulary with which to discuss the way we should behave in society. To find out more, follow this link to our Values page on our website: https://www.collegeroadschool.co.uk/school-values/
